ULTFARMS

Developing Low-Trophic Aquaculture Pilots in offshore wind farms

Funded

North Sea, Baltic Sea

From 2023

ULTFARMS advances low-trophic aquaculture in Europe in the challenging offshore environment. We give Fachhochschule Kiel local seeds and advice in their challenging mission to test Saccharina cultivation 80 km offshore.

What we are doing

The Project

ULTFARMS advances low-trophic aquaculture (LTA) by integrating seaweed, mussel, and oyster cultivation with offshore wind farms across six pilot locations in the North Sea and Baltic Sea. The project develops innovative, nature-inclusive systems while optimizing production under dynamic offshore conditions. It also focuses on ecological innovations, sustainable practices, and delivery of low-carbon, safe aquaculture products to the market.

Hortimare supports the project by delivering high-quality seed material for the German pilot and sharing expertise. Collaborations within the project enhance knowledge exchange and contribute to the sustainable growth of the aquaculture industry.
